The Preamble

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

The Preamble of the Constitution of the United States was the absolute starting point of our nation’s attempt to self-governance. It indicates the nations intent to establish a perfect union that promotes justice and protects its citizens.

Though he may not know the magnitude of his words, the 65,000 viewers of this Youtube video hopefully do. According to fellow Blogger Anita Morgan:
"Many people talk about the Constitution, especially now that the election is near. But how many of them have read it -- or even the preamble? We said the preamble every day when I was in eighth grade. It says that we want to "form a more perfect union" (not separate individuals), "establish justice" (that includes all), "ensure domestic tranquillity" (peace among ourselves), "provide for the common defense" (we will protect one another), "promote the general welfare" (yep, we want people to have a good life, regardless of who they are), and "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity" (we want this to continue). The preamble states the purpose of our Constitution: to make sure that the seven ideas listed would happen.
Read the document sometime. It is enlightening. And then get a good book on all of the various judgments the Supreme Court has made since its inception. Read your history. Get the facts from sources like PolitiFact rather than from 30-second sound bites. We need informed voters."
So, it seems as if this two year old is off to a good start. Being able to reciting the preamble is probably one of the first steps to being considered an ‘informed citizen.’ We expect great things from this kid- probably the rest of the constitution – including the first ten amendments (that would make this midterm assignment fairly easy)
